US-based discount grocery store chain Save A Lot has completed the final step in its transition to a wholesale model with the sale of its remaining company-operated stores.
Located in St Louis, Missouri, the remaining 18 stores are being acquired by the current Save A Lot retail partner, Leevers Supermarkets.
Following the acquisition, Leevers will continue to operate the stores under the Save A Lot banner.
Save A Lot is no longer operating stores directly but will continue to partner closely with individual retail partners and others across its network.
The deal marks the closure of its ongoing wholesale transformation, which it started in late 2020.
Save A Lot chief executive officer Leon Bergmann said: “As we’ve made a strategic shift to become a licensed wholesaler, it’s clear that our long-term growth momentum must be rooted in the success of our strong network of Retail Partners.
