Fashion retailer Primark has marked a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy by inaugurating four new stores across four countries in a single day.

The openings have created 580 new jobs, highlighting Primark’s contribution to local economies.

The Queens store is the 10th Primark location in New York and the second within the borough. This £14m investment aligns with Primark’s ongoing growth in the US market, where it now has 28 stores across 11 states.

The relocated Madrid store in the Parquesur Shopping Centre has doubled in size from its predecessor, solidifying Spain as one of Primark’s most significant markets.

Primark CEO Paul Marchant said: “This is an exciting time in our growth journey and a first for Primark. Opening four stores across two continents in one day highlights the scale of our global ambition, helping more people to look and feel good for less.

“With 580 new jobs created, we know these stores not only give a boost to the local communities but also bring what we call the ‘Primark halo effect’ to the shopping destinations — the positive impact of the footfall to our stores on surrounding businesses.”

Primark recently disclosed plans to open another store at La Plaza shopping centre in McAllen, Texas on 12 December 2024.

The brand operates a network of 450 stores globally, employing more than 80,000 colleagues.
