The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) has ordered all Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores and licensee service centres in Pennsylvania to remove all Russia-made products from their shelves to express support for the people of Ukraine.

The PLCB also said that no Special Order products made in Russia are currently available in the state.

PLCB chairman Tim Holden said: “As of today, these products will no longer be sold or procured by the PLCB. Given the evolving political-economic climate, it’s just the right thing to do.”

Certain producers market their vodka products using Russian-themed brand names, as consumers often associate vodka with Russia.

The PLCB noted that some Fine Wine & Good Spirits products are actually sourced from Russia, including Russian Standard and Ustianochka 80-proof vodkas, as well as certain Special Order brands.

The agency said it will not object to Russian-branded products that are not imported directly from Russia.

The PLCB currently operates 600 wine and spirits stores across Pennsylvania and licenses 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers and handlers.

The body is responsible for regulating the distribution of alcoholic beverages in the state.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has written to the PLCB urging it to remove all Russian-sourced products from Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores in the Commonwealth and stop selling them ‘as quickly as possible’.

Wolf said: “I have joined with leaders across the nation and across the world in condemning these attacks and expressing support for the people of Ukraine.

“I appreciate the board’s efforts to quickly identify Russian-sourced products currently being sold at Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores.

“I urge the board to take these further actions as a show of solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine, and an expression of our collective revulsion with the unprovoked actions of the Russian state.”
