German discount grocer Lidl is planning to open a new distribution centre in Peterborough, UK, in order to support its growth in the country.
The retailer has signed contracts related to a 34-acre site, which will accommodate the proposed 754,000ft warehouse.
The distribution centre marks the company’s sixth new warehouse announced in the current year and its 15th such facility in the country.
Lidl UK expansion head Adrienne Howells was quoted by media sources as saying: “Our expansion across the UK is progressing rapidly, and it’s important we have the right supply chain infrastructure to support this.
“Peterborough is ideally located and we’re pleased to be bringing more jobs to the local community.”
According to the company, the new warehouse will provide jobs to 500 workers.
