Ikea plans to install solar panels atop of the relocated Seattle-area store, which is under construction in Renton, Washington, US.
Installation will begin shortly, with completion expected by the end of this year.
The store’s 244,504ft² solar array will comprise a 1.18MW system with 3,420 panels, and will annually produce approximately 1,319,000kWh of electricity for the store, which is the equivalent of reducing 927t of carbon dioxide.
Ikea has selected REC Solar for the development, design and installation of the new store’s solar power system.
Ikea store manager Diedre Goodchild said: “Installing Washington’s largest rooftop array advances our vision of creating a better everyday life for the many.”
This installation will be the 44th solar project for Ikea in the US.
