US-based consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has expanded its same-day delivery service in 13 markets across the country, in a move to compete with online retailer Amazon.
Last year, the retailer launched the pilot project in San Francisco in partnership with Deliv, which has independent contractors working as drivers. It introduced the programme in New York earlier this year.
It now intends to extend this service to other cities such as Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, DC., and Los Angeles.
Orders will be shipped from its 165 outlets.
The expansion of same-day delivery service has been made by Best Buy as Amazon announced its plans to double the number of areas where it intends to offer free same-day delivery on orders that have been placed by consumers through its Amazon Prime service.
Delivery fees to be charged by Best Buy would be between $12 and $20.
California-based Deliv already offers delivery service to several retailers, including Macy’s and Kohl’s.
