US supermarket chain Meijer plans to expand its presence in northeast Ohio with three new supercentres.

Scheduled to open on 8 May 2025, the new stores will increase Meijer’s total count in the state to 58.

The new supercentres, each spanning 159,000ft², are situated in Austintown, Medina and Richmond Heights.

They will offer groceries, bakery items, meats, seafood and deli products, a dedicated floral section, a garden centre and departments for apparel and home goods.

The stores will also house a full-service pharmacy, health and beauty care products, an extensive pet department and aisles for electronics, toys and sporting goods.

The retailer will unveil a Meijer Express gas station adjacent to the Austintown store on 10 April 2025.

Meijer Ohio region vice-president Todd Anderson stated: “We’re investing heavily to serve the northeast Ohio community and consistently receiving positive feedback about our value and convenience. Ohio was the first state we expanded to outside of Michigan, and we look forward to continuing that growth this year and into the future.”

As the new locations prepare for their opening, Meijer is recruiting for part-time and full-time positions.

Currently, Meijer employs over 13,000 team members across its Ohio stores and distribution/manufacturing facilities in Tipp City.

The retailer plans to continue expansion in the state with new stores, remodeling existing ones, generating employment opportunities, supporting team members’ development and contributing to local nonprofit organisations.

In December 2024, Meijer expanded its home delivery radius from a 20-minute drive from its stores to up to 60 minutes.
