Supermarket chain Kroger has expanded its digital portfolio by introducing two new payment options in a move to offer faster checkout experience to customers.
Kroger Pay is a mobile payment feature offered within Kroger Family of Stores applications.
To use the feature, customers need to enter custom PIN or biometrics in the app, which will provide a single-use QR code.
They need to scan the code at the terminal and communicate payment and loyalty card information to complete the transaction.
Currently available at both traditional checkout lanes and self-checkout stations, the solution is claimed to reduce checkout time, as well as provide frictionless experience for store associates and customers.
Kroger Rewards debit card directly connects to a customer’s checking account to ensure faster checkout. In addition, it offers bonus fuel points and discounts on the retailer’s Our Brands portfolio. It can also be used through Kroger Pay.
Kroger personal finance CEO and corporate strategy integration lead Gary Millerchip said: “Kroger is redefining the customer experience by creating innovative ways to pay at our stores and online.
“Kroger Pay and the Kroger REWARDS debit card are two more ways we are transforming our payments model to benefit our customers.”
The supermarket chain introduced Kroger Pay recently at its Columbus store and plans to expand it to ten additional markets this spring. It also plans to further expand the solution nationwide later this year.
Currently available in Columbus, Ohio, and King Soopers and City Market, Colorado, the retailer plans to introduce Kroger Rewards debit card to all Kroger Family of Stores this spring.
