Grocery technology company Instacart and grocery retailer Albertsons have expanded their pickup services and rapid convenience delivery across the US.

By the end of August 2024, the Instacart pickup service will be available in more than 2,000 locations under the Albertsons banners ACME, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Safeway, Shaw’s and Vons.

Customers can place a pickup order through the Instacart app and select their preferred pickup window at checkout.

Shoppers will be notified via the app when their order is ready and can collect it from designated parking spaces where an Albertsons store associate will deliver it to their vehicle.

This service is offered free of charge.

The companies, which partnered in 2017, have also announced the integration of Albertsons Rapid into the Instacart-powered virtual convenience store, enabling customers to receive their orders in as little as thirty minutes.

The rapid service includes a wide range of products, from prepared foods to household essentials.

The service is available for a fee of $2.99 per order, but is complimentary for Instacart+ members.

Haggen Food & Pharmacy has also joined the Instacart platform for same-day delivery, making it the final Albertsons banner to do so.

Customers in Washington state can now access Haggen’s fresh food and pantry staples through Instacart’s delivery service.

Instacart retail partnership vice-president Ryan Hamburger said: “Expanding our partnership with Albertsons showcases our commitment to serving as the leading technology partner in the grocery industry.

“By introducing Albertsons Rapid, extending Instacart pickup services to more than two thousand locations and adding Haggen for same-day delivery, we’re ensuring that customers enjoy an even faster, more flexible and effortless shopping experience.

“Whether it’s a full weekly shop or a last-minute need, we’re delivering value and convenience right to your doorstep from your local Albertsons banner store.”

In May 2024, Instacart partnered with security and automation provider ADT to offer a mobile safety solution for shoppers.
