Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA has inaugurated a new smaller-scale urban store format within the Mall of Scandinavia, Stockholm.

The development is in line with IKEA’s initiative to create urban retail spaces that are more convenient for customers to visit.

The new opening marks a significant step in its pursuit to evolve and respond to shifting shopping preferences.

The store is located in Sweden’s most frequented shopping destination, which draws 13 million visitors each year.

Occupying 2,500m², the store offers diverse range of home furnishing products and solutions.

Customers can explore 5,000 products from IKEA’s range, with 2,000 available for immediate take-away.

For those seeking the full breadth of IKEA’s offerings, the entire catalogue can be conveniently ordered for home delivery or pick-up at the store.

The store also introduces a compact bistro serving up IKEA fare – including their famous meatballs and plant-based alternatives.

The location employs a team of 60 home furnishing specialists to provide bespoke home-planning services.

Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, operates in 31 markets and accounts for 90% of IKEA’s retail sales.  It owns and manages IKEA sales channels through franchise agreements with Inter IKEA Systems. The group is divided into three main business areas: IKEA Retail, Ingka Investments and Ingka Centres.

Ingka Retail manager Tolga Öncu stated: “Our new store in the Mall of Scandinavia is a great step in our journey to make IKEA more accessible and responsive to our customers’ needs, in Stockholm and beyond. By embracing smaller, urban store formats, we can bring the IKEA experience closer to more people, offering convenience without compromising on inspiration and service.”

In October 2024, the Inter IKEA Group reported a 5.3% drop in IKEA retail sales revenue for the financial year 2024, which totalled €45.1bn ($49.3bn) – down from €47.6bn in FY23.
