Carrefour’s Middle East franchisee Majid Al Futtaim has announced the suspension of Carrefour Jordan, to be replaced with a new brand called Hypermax.
No specific reasons were given for the change.
The move comes after Carrefour Jordan announced on its Facebook page that it would cease operations in the country.
In an emailed statement reported by Reuters, Majid Al Futtaim noted that it “regularly reviews and assesses its businesses to ensure it remains agile in adapting to evolving market dynamics.”
Majid Al Futtaim, which introduced Carrefour to the region in 1995, has indicated that Hypermax will be a “brand-new Arab grocery chain” rolled out across all 34 of its stores in Jordan.
The new brand is designed to cater to the needs of Jordanian customers, focusing on their preference for locally-sourced products.
