Asian-American speciality grocery retailer H Mart has partnered with Norway-based robotics technology company AutoStore and material handling automation services provider Bastian Solutions to launch an automated micro-fulfilment centre (MFC).

The retailer will use the MFC to accelerate order fulfilment and enhance customer experience in Carlstadt, New Jersey.

The MFC will improve fulfilment efficiency for a wide range of grocery-packaged goods as well as fresh and frozen items.

H Mart executive vice-president Vince Colatriano said: “Hmart.com has proven to be an important offering to our customers by enabling them to experience the food that lets them feel at home, just as when they shop in-store.

“We’ve partnered with the best automated technology in the field to fulfil our orders quickly and efficiently. We’re excited to work with Bastian Solutions and AutoStore to deliver the highest-quality Asian products to our customers.”

AutoStore MFC business line head Mike Demko said: “H Mart’s investment in e-grocery automation will not only help the bottom line of their online business, but will benefit their customer base as a whole.

“We’re excited to work with Bastian Solutions in providing H Mart a solution that gives them greater operational efficiency and order accuracy, so customers receive exactly what they ordered.”

AutoStore’s flexible and scalable MFC solution speeds up both in-store pickup and home delivery, and can also be installed at the back of a store.

More than 600 AutoStore systems are currently installed in 35 countries across various industries.

H Mart is the largest Asian supermarket chain in the US, currently operating more than 97 stores across the country.

Based in Indiana, Bastian Solutions aims to provide clients with a competitive advantage by designing and delivering world-class distribution and production solutions. The company has been owned by Toyota Advanced Logistics since 2017.
