Each store now features an expanded product range, including craft beer, limited reserve wines, organic and gluten-free items, hand-battered chicken and in-store cut fresh produce.

All the remodelled stores now offer a range of Nature’s Promise beef, pork, poultry, milk, eggs, bottled water, cereal, coffee and other items.

Two Charlottesville stores will feature walk-in coolers in order to keep produce fresh.

Food Lion also enhanced the deli bakery department of each store by adding in-store made hand-battered fried chicken, a selection of affordable complete meals, a range of grab-and-go items, and pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses.

Food Lion president Meg Ham said: “We’ve created a new grocery shopping experience through the significant investments in our stores, associates and communities.

“From our expanded variety and product assortment, newly reorganised stores, to a more efficient check-out experience, every change we’ve made will make it easier for our customers to find the quality products they have come to expect from Food Lion.

“When coupled with our weekly sales and promotions, customers will see that we have made it easier for them to nourish their families with healthy foods on a budget.”

Earlier this month, Food Lion opened 92 remodelled stores in Greater Myrtle Beach, Florence, Columbia and Charleston areas of South Carolina, US.
