US-based grocery chain Food Lion has completed the remodelling of its 105 area stores in greater Norfolk, Virginia, with an investment of $168m.
The retailer used the investment to renovate the stores, lower prices and expand product offerings. It has also created 4,000 jobs.
Food Lion president Meg Ham said: “We’ve created a new grocery shopping experience through the significant investments in our stores, customers, associates and communities.
“From our expanded variety and product assortment, newly reorganised stores, new signage to a more efficient check-out experience, every change we’ve made will make it easier for our customers to find fresh, quality products at affordable prices every day.
“And true to our heritage, we always offer every day low prices along with weekly sales and promotions, making it easier for you to nourish your family on a budget.
“We invite our customers to come and experience the fresh, new changes at your neighbourhood Food Lion.”

As part of the remodelling, 12 of the 105 stores feature walk-in garden coolers to keep the products fresh for longer periods, while more than 40 stores feature a wing bar assortment offering quick meal solutions to customers.
The grocery store chain also expanded the deli departments of six stores by adding handmade artisan pizza, wing bar, premium coffee, and soda stations.
All the stores now feature new signage and groupings of similar products, enabling customers to locate items faster, and an expanded assortment of products across all departments.
