German supermarket chain Edeka has partnered with real-time event-driven enterprise Solace in an effort to enhance the shopping experience for its customers.
The retailer will install Solace’s PubSub+ Platform, an event streaming and management technology that streams master data from datacentres to stores in real-time.
Edeka will use the technology to distribute product information on a real-time, event-driven basis instead of issuing daily batch updates.
The platform is expected to improve the reliability, strength and agility of the retailer’s infrastructure.
Edeka also plans to leverage the platform’s support for several protocols and environments, including Cloud storage, datacentres and stores.
Solace Europe vice-president Vincent Rontani said: “We’re proud to be a part of Edeka’s digital journey because of their commitment to the customer experience and supply chain optimisation.

By GlobalData“PubSub+ Platform is helping Edeka realise the benefits of using event-driven architecture – specifically an event mesh – to enable real-time processing and predictive insights across the supermarket supply chain, from source to sale.”
The PubSub+ Event Portal service is designed to allow event flow to be visualised, optimised and governed across the user’s distributed enterprises.
Edeka can differentiate its brand using the service, which includes best practices to help design events and event-driven apps, discover and catalogue events from across the business.
The retailer currently operates more than 6,000 stores and employs 402,000 people.
Earlier this year, European retail distributor The Mousquetaires contracted Solace, together with Cloud-based integration platform provider Boomi, to expedite its digital transformation.
The two companies are supporting The Mousquetaires’ IT department, STIME, in its digital transformation programme.
This has involved overhauling the group’s IT system and business chain to better address new challenges in mass distribution.
The Mousquetaires is also using Solace’s event-driven architecture tooling, including the PubSub+ Event Portal, to improve its event flows and omnichannel experiences.
