Global online marketplace eBay has announced it will add Google pay its arsenal of payment options to enhance customer payment choice in April.
The new payment option is a part of eBay’s plans to intermediate end-to-end payments on its marketplace to make improve customer experience and handle the majority of its payments via its platform by 2021.
Available for android users, the new payment option will see Google Pay join Apple Pay as eBay’s latest payment option.
Customers will be able to place orders on eBay via mobile web, desktop and the app, and complete the transaction using Google Pay.
eBay billing and risk global payments vice president Alyssa Cutright said: “Google Pay provides users with a fast, simple and secure way to pay online.
“Offering Google Pay as a form of payment is another significant step toward providing our customers with more choice in their payment options, and creating an experience that is tailored to personal preferences.”
The retailer is planning to expand the availability of both Apple Pay and Google Pay payment options to more regions under its managed payments programme. These payment options are currently accessible to customers making purchases from sellers enrolled in eBay’s new payments experience.
eBay’s managed payments programme enables customers to complete transactions using the payment method of their choice without leaving the platform.
