US discount store company Dollar General has officially unveiled its latest distribution centre in North Little Rock, Arkansas, strengthening its supply chain operations.

The new one million ft² distribution centre represents an investment of $160m in Pulaski County.

It will play a critical role in supporting Dollar General’s traditional supply chain as well as its DG Fresh network, which delivers perishable products to stores.

The facility will also assist in the operation of the DG Private Fleet. Once fully operational, the facility will create 300 local jobs.

The North Little Rock distribution centre will offer job opportunities including positions in warehouse operations, human resources, inventory control and maintenance.

Dollar General global supply chain executive vice-president Rod West stated: “We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our first Arkansas distribution centre in north Little Rock, together with our team and their families.

“This facility looks to better support our store teams and customers by combining the functionalities of our traditional, DG Fresh and Private Fleet distribution channels. We are honoured and humbled by our partnership among federal, state and local officials, as well as local nonprofit organisations that continue to support our investment and continued service in the Natural State.”

Dollar General has deep roots in Arkansas, having opened its first store in the state back in 1975. Today, the company employs 5,700 individuals across its stores and distribution centres in the region.

The company offers competitive wages and benefits package, including health insurance options and paid parental leave.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders stated: “Fifty years after the first Dollar General opened in Arkansas, we are proud to welcome their first-ever distribution centre in the Natural State.

“Central Arkansas is where America’s road, river and rail come together, and with my administration’s investments in education and workforce training, companies from across the country and world are deciding to put down roots.”

As of 1 November 2024, the company operates a total of 20,523 stores: Dollar General, DG Market, DGX, pOpshelf locations in the US and Mi Súper Dollar General stores in Mexico.
