DICK’S Sporting Goods has revealed plans to construct an 800,000ft² regional distribution centre in Fort Worth, Texas, US.

The strategic expansion will generate 300 new full-time positions over the next decade, bolstering the local economy.

The facility will enhance DICK’S Sporting Goods’ distribution capabilities to more than 100 stores across several states, and re-inforce its presence in Texas.

Fort Worth was chosen for its business environment, skilled workforce and proximity to the company’s growing store network in the region.

The new distribution centre will join existing facilities in Atlanta, Conklin, Goodyear, Plainfield and Smithton.

Construction is expected to commence in autumn 2024, with the groundbreaking creating an additional 800 temporary construction jobs.

DICK’s supply chain senior vice-president Sean Whitehouse said: “We’re thrilled to announce our plans to build and open a distribution centre in Fort Worth.

“This facility will support the rapid growth of our business, including in the state of Texas, and enable more efficient and effective flow of product to athletes whether they shop in-store or online. We’re also excited to play an active role in the Fort Worth community.”

The distribution centre will occupy an 89.5-acre site within the Risinger/35 Logistics Park, a Hillwood development.

Hillwood, also responsible for AllianceTexas, and Hillwood Construction Services will develop and construct the project, which is expected to open in early 2026.

In line with sustainability efforts, DICK’S Sporting Goods will implement initiatives such as high-efficiency lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, use of recycled materials, energy management systems and recycling programmes at the new facility.

Hillwood senior vice-president Reid Goetz said: “Hillwood is honoured to partner with DICK’S Sporting Goods to deliver their next-generation distribution facility at our Risinger/35 Logistics Park development in south Fort Worth.

DICK’S Sporting Goods recorded a 10% decrease in net income in the first quarter of fiscal 2024, falling to $275m from $305m in Q1 FY23.
