Information technology company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has implemented a 100% in-store mobile checkout system for Indian electronics retailer Croma.

TCS has deployed its OmniStore AI-powered, unified composable commerce platform across the retailer’s outlets in the country.

The platform is expected to expedite the checkout process and improve omnichannel shopping experience across touchpoints.

Croma, a Tata enterprise with more than 500 stores in 160 cities, offers 22,000 products across 550 brands.

The retailer’s ten-year partnership with TCS has now evolved to include a major business and technology transformation initiated in 2019.

The collaboration aims to provide an exceptional unified shopping experience and solidify Croma’s market leadership.

Croma deputy CEO Shibashish Roy said: “Croma’s vision is to be number one in customer experience and satisfaction. Many of today’s shoppers want to learn and shortlist products online — so when they arrive at the store, they can select the right items, check out and be on their way out.

“Crafting a seamless, delightful omnichannel journey is, therefore, an imperative for us, and OmniStore is key to enabling it. We have enjoyed our unique and truly integrated partnership with TCS to co-develop and co-innovate multiple aspects of the customer experience, and that’s exactly what we needed to succeed in an ambitious initiative like this.”

The TCS OmniStore platform’s microservices-based architecture provides the scalability and flexibility Croma needs to innovate and streamline the shopping process.

It supports modern commerce experiences with features such as scan and go, click-and-collect, self-checkout, universal cart and dynamic promotion management.

Croma stores offer more than 80 payment options including cards, wallets, Unified Payments Interface and loans.

The introduction of this system has not only reduced checkout times but also increased sales and customer visits.

The cloud-based checkout model with a lean store footprint removes the need for traditional onsite hardware, enabling Croma to set up billing processes four times faster, a crucial advantage as the retailer continues to expand.

In February 2024, British consumer co-operative group Co-op adopted a cloud-first strategy through an expanded partnership with TCS.
