British cooperative Co-op has re-opened three stores after significant refurbishment efforts.
The locations receiving upgrades were Fore Street in Topsham, Devon, Newland’s Park in Scarborough and Ledbury Road in Tupsley, Herefordshire.
Each now has a refreshed appearance and layout.
Newland’s Park, which opened after seven-week transformation is the largest of the three, spanning more than 2,300ft².
The stores are now equipped with enhanced refrigeration systems to reduce energy usage, while the product selection has been augmented to emphasise fresh and healthy offerings.
Offerings include food-to-go options, meal deals, frozen goods, dairy items, bakery products and Fairtrade commodities.
Additional amenities now include parcel collection points, Paypoint services for bill payments and ATMs.
The stores also serve as logistical nodes for Co-op’s quick commerce service.
This enables swift and convenient home delivery of groceries through Co-op’s own digital platform as well as partnerships with Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
With sustainability in mind, facilities for recycling soft plastics have been introduced. Customers can return difficult-to-recycle items such as crisp packets, bread bags, ready meal lids, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches.
These stores collectively sustain 42 local jobs.
Co-op Newland Park store manager Stephen Arnold stated: “The whole team is delighted to invest in Scarborough, and relaunch Co-op’s Newlands Park Drive store. It looks fantastic, transformed with a fresh new layout and enhanced range and choice.
“We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone, and really look forward to welcoming our members and customers into their new-look Co-op. We’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support our community.”
The store transformations are in line with Co-op’s target to renovate 80 of its stores throughout 2025.
Co-op recently initiated new price-matching campaign, which sees it aligning prices with Aldi on more than 100 everyday items including fresh produce such as fruit, milk, eggs and bread.
In early 2025, the retailer also announced plans to open 75 new stores across the UK in 2025.
