US-based e-commerce company Amazon is planning to open its first fulfillment centre in Missouri creating 1,500 full-time employment opportunities in the region.
With its new facility located in St. Peters, Amazon intends to create a platform to engage Amazon Robotics in a ‘highly technological’ workplace.
The new Amazon Robotics technology has been designed to assist employees in fulfilling customer orders.
Currently, Amazon operates a sortation centre in Hazelwood where it employs hundreds of associates.
Amazon North America Customer Fulfillment vice-president Sanjay Shah said: “We’re excited to continue growing our team with our first, state-of-the-art fulfilment centre in Missouri.
“Our ability to expand in Missouri is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce. Amazon is committed to providing great opportunities for employment and creating a positive economic impact for the region.”

By GlobalDataThe new 800,000 feet squared fulfillment centre in Missouri will be used by the e-commerce company to pick, pack and ship small items such as books, electronics and toys to customers.
The full-time employees working at the new facility will be entitled to benefits offered by Amazon to all its associates including competitive hourly wages, health insurance, and company stock awards starting on day one.
St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano said: “All of us in St. Peters are excited to welcome Amazon to ‘My Hometown’ and we’re looking forward to them joining the St. Peters family with 1,500 jobs for our region’s well-trained workforce.
“With Amazon’s tremendous investment in our region and our commitment to facilitating quality economic development projects with our ‘FasTrac’ process we believe this will be one of their most successful projects – ever.”
Amazon is also planning on opening a fulfillment centre at Baltimore’s Sparrows Point in Maryland
Last year in November, the company announced its plans to open a fulfilment centre at Baltimore’s Sparrows Point in Maryland by 2019.
