E-commerce major Amazon has expanded its operations and transportation network in Michigan with a new advanced robotics fulfilment centre (FC) in Detroit.
The new 823,000ft² facility is designed to support the retailer’s ten fulfilment and sorting centres, as well as its 13 delivery stations in the state.
The Detroit FC employs more than 1,200 people, who will operate innovative technology to fulfil customer orders.
Amazon officially opened the facility in the presence of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, state and local elected officials and community partners in Detroit, Michigan.
Detroit fulfilment centre assistant general manager Paola Lopez said: “We are thrilled to officially open our new Amazon robotics fulfilment centre here in Detroit so we can continue to deliver for our customers in Michigan and beyond.
“Not only are we bringing great jobs with comprehensive benefits to local residents, but we are also aiming to be a strong community partner by supporting organisations in the Detroit area. It’s an honour to lead Amazon’s first operations site in Detroit and help build career pathways for our employees in a safe, engaging and fun workplace.”
