Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain, is ramping up its expansion plans with a commitment to open ten new stores across the region in the coming months.

The supermarket chain is on track to open 35 new stores in total this year.

This aggressive growth strategy aims to bring Aldi’s discount grocery model to a wider range of shoppers and further solidify its position in the competitive retail landscape.

The expansion kicks off with immediate openings planned for Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire and Olney Park in Milton Keynes.

Several other towns across the UK, including Aberdare, Broughty Ferry, Leytonstone, Beckton, Middleton, Rugeley, Gosforth, Holloway Road, and Shepshed, are poised to welcome new Aldi locations in the coming months.

This significant investment underscores Aldi’s long-term vision of reaching 1,500 stores in the UK.

The company is allocating £550m ($704.1m) this year alone to fund its ambitious expansion plans.

“At Aldi, we want to ensure that high-quality yet affordable food is available to everyone which is why we are continuing to expand across the UK,” said Jonathan Neale, real estate managing director at Aldi UK.

“We have already opened several new stores this year, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire and Newport in Wales to Castle Gresley in Derbyshire and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and now we’re excited to bring Aldi to even more communities over the coming months.”

Aldi’s expansion plans not only benefit consumers by increasing access to its budget-friendly offerings, but also create new job opportunities.

Each new store is expected to generate approximately 40 jobs on average.

Aldi also positions itself as an attractive employer, offering competitive wages with a starting rate of £12.40 per hour, rising to £13.65 per hour in UK capital London.

Additionally, Aldi said it remains the only supermarket chain in the UK to provide paid breaks for its employees, a benefit valued at more than £900 annually for the average store colleague.

By combining its discount pricing strategy with strategic store openings and competitive employee benefits, Aldi is well-positioned to capitalise on its growth potential within the UK retail sector.
