The British arm of German supermarket chain Aldi has reported a record-breaking Christmas in 2023 as sales hit more than £1.5bn for the first time.
In the four weeks ending 24 December 2023, Aldi’s sales increased by 8% compared to the same period in 2022.
The surge in sales was driven by a demand for its products, which resulted in a significant number of shoppers switching to Aldi from traditional full-price supermarkets.
Aldi said that its busiest trading day was on 22 December, with 2.5 million customers visiting its stores for their Christmas shopping.
Aldi’s products, including its Specially Selected Wagyu Rib Joint and Specially Selected Crackling Gammon Joint, contributed to the sales boost during the festive season.
Aldi UK and Ireland CEO Giles Hurley stated: “As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we were able to help customers enjoy the Christmas they deserve and provide them with high-quality products at the most affordable prices.”
