American convenience store chain 7-Eleven has partnered with mobile payment company Citcon to offer Alipay and WeChat Pay mobile payment options to customers in Canada.

As part of the deal, around 35 select 7-Eleven stores in Vancouver and Toronto will now accept payments through Alipay and WeChat Pay.

The payments options will offer residents and tourists an easy way to complete their transactions in Canada and elevate the customer experience.

7-Eleven chief digital officer and chief information officer Gurmeet Singh said: “Digital Payments are on the rise and consumers across the world are embracing them for convenience. 7-Eleven is redefining convenience for our customers across the globe which includes providing mobile payment solutions.

“With 67,000 stores worldwide, Alipay and WeChat Pay are just one of many solutions that we provide our global consumers so they can enjoy a frictionless experience in our stores.”

In addition, the retailer plans to expand the service to more locations in the next few months.

7‑Eleven currently operates more than 67,000 7-Eleven stores in 17 countries, including 11,800 in North America.
