December 2020 has seen a decrease of 5.87% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2020.

IT jobs accounted for a 1.44% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2020, registering an increase of 0.17% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2020
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 74.78% in December 2020, an 8.22% growth over the previous month. Computer Support Specialists came in next, claiming a share of 8.64% in December 2020, marking a 70% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 6.42% in December 2020, a 10.32% growth from November 2020.
Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 5.31% in December 2020, a 2.54% decline over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in December 2020
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 24.71% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s retail industry during December 2020 over previous month.
Amazon posted 1,123 IT jobs in December 2020 and registered an increase of 15.77% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 194 jobs and a 12.14% growth. CVS Health with 170 IT jobs and Macy’s with 64 jobs, recorded a 120.78% growth and a 357.14% increase, respectively, while NIKE recorded a 1.89% increase with 54 job postings during December 2020.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s retail industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 96.03% share in December 2020, a 11.18% rise over November 2020. Canada featured next with a 2.96% share, up 28% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.02% share, a drop of 50% compared with November 2020.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2020
Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.82%, up 1.08% from November 2020. Entry Level positions with a 25.4% share, registered a growth of 38.89% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 22.36% share, up 6.84% over November 2020. Senior Level postings accounted for a 0.42% share, recording a month-on-month growth of 50%.
