North America witnessed a 37.6% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in November 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

November 2022 has seen a decrease of 7.08% in the overall hiring activity when compared with October 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 1.67% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in November 2022, registering a decrease of 1.33% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in November 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 56.55% in November 2022, a 59.99% drop over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in next, claiming a share of 13.56% in November 2022, marking a 19.79% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 11.57% in November 2022, a 32.3% drop from October 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 10.8% in November 2022, a 1.08% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in November 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 55.95% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s retail industry during November 2022 over previous month.

Walmart posted 308 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a decline of 6.38% over the previous month, followed by Amazon with 270 jobs and an 80.84% drop. CVS Health with 125 IT jobs and Home Depot with 100 jobs, recorded a 17.22% drop and a 35.14% rise, respectively, while Chewy recorded a 23.08% increase with 96 job postings during November 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s retail industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 92.72% share in November 2022, a 49.68% decrease over October 2022. Canada featured next with a 6.11% share, down 48.77% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1% share, a drop of 39.29% compared with October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.61%, down by 51.14% from October 2022. Mid Level positions with a 25.9% share, registered a decline of 42.88% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 22.37% share, down 51.83% over October 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.12%, recording a month-on-month decline of 75%.
