December 2021 has seen a decrease of 15.97% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 5.76% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering an increase of 0.77% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 67.51% in December 2021, a 15.18% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 13.63% in December 2021, marking a 16.5% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 10.45% in December 2021, a 14.09% drop from November 2021.

Top five retail companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 12.41% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s retail industry during December 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 466 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a decline of 9.34% over the previous month, followed by Inter IKEA Holding with 105 jobs and a 5% growth. Zalando with 70 IT jobs and H & M Hennes & Mauritz with 55 jobs, recorded a 38.05% drop and a 22.54% drop, respectively, while adidas recorded a 6.25% decline with 45 job postings during December 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s retail industry
The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 22.94% share in December 2021, a 24.87% decrease over November 2021. Germany featured next with a 22.12% share, down 27.54% over the previous month. Sweden recorded an 8.98% share, a drop of 7.56% compared with November 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.18%, down by 11.7% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 17.14% share, registered a decline of 12.13% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 15.35% share, down 21.34% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.33%, recording a month-on-month growth of 300%.
