The US retail industry saw a rise of 32.6% in overall deal activity during October 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 61 deals worth $15.65bn were announced in October 2019, compared to the 12-month average of 46 deals.
M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 39 deals which accounted for 63.9% of all deals.
In second place was venture financing with 17 deals, followed by private equity with five transactions, respectively accounting for 27.9% and 8.2% of overall deal activity in the country’s retail industry during the month.

The combined value of the top five retail deals stood at $15.56bn, against the overall value of $15.65bn recorded for the month.

1) LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s $14.59bn acquisition of Tiffany
2) The $585m private equity deal with by Apollo Global Management
3) Authentic Brands Group and B Riley Financial’s $271.4m asset transaction with Barneys New York
4) The $68.4m acquisition of Mor Furniture for Less by Healthcare
5) Evolution Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and Peak State Ventures’ venture financing of b8ta for $50m.
