According to the GlobalData 2018 Q4 Consumer Survey, evolving tracking technology such as automated home appliances and the internet of things will have a positive impact in the future (59% and 49% respectively).

Recently, there has been global speculation in the press on how tracking technology can be intrusive, such as the first legal challenge against police facial recognition surveillance in the UK and San Francisco was the first US city last week to ban facial recognition cameras.

However, the majority of people’s opinion in GlobalData’s 2018 Consumer Survey that surveillance technology will ultimately be beneficial for society. This leaves government bodies and brands to decide how these forms of technology should be used to make a positive impact on society.
