Hibbett, a US-based athletic-inspired fashion retailer, has announced its partnership with API [application programme interface] security and bot management company Cequence Security.
The partnership has seen Hibbett integrate the Cequence unified API protection platform (UAP) to bolster security across its hybrid IT infrastructure that spans both in-store and online operations.
Following significant migrations to Oracle Cloud and Azure Active Directory, Hibbett recognised the necessity of advanced API security to safeguard its digital communications.
The retailer experienced an increase in API traffic, underscoring the importance of enhanced visibility to prevent data breaches, fraud and operational interruptions.
Hibbett’s selection of the Cequence UAP platform was driven by the need for a security solution capable of swiftly identifying and defending all APIs while allowing for tailored policies to counteract bot attacks without affecting business continuity or partnerships.
The platform promises to protect essential services before they go live, supporting Hibbett’s growth within the competitive retail sector.

By GlobalDataThe deployment of Cequence’s UAP platform has provided Hibbett with benefits such as better oversight and control over its API infrastructure and streamlined integration, avoiding complications often associated with external security tools.
Hibbett also gains all-inclusive security through a singular, integrated platform, custom policy creation to address and neutralise specific bot threats effectively, and operational efficiency.
Hibbett security and infrastructure architecture senior director Lee Morris said: “Cequence has allowed us to transform our IT from being a cost centre to a strategic arm of the organisation that is contributing to our bottom line.
“With the unified API protection platform, we are now creating efficiencies in the processes that we couldn’t provide without the infrastructure and the systems we had in place. The Cequence UAP platform is one of the key technologies that is enabling our IT security team to become a much larger contributor to our company’s success.”
