Convenience retail chain Alimentation Couche-Tard has announced a definitive agreement with Giant Eagle to acquire US-based GetGo Café + Market stores.
GetGo, known for its food-focused convenience store model, operates 270 locations across West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
Employing 3,500, the retailer offers store formats including open-concept stores and stand-alone kiosks.
The acquisition is expected to conclude in 2025.

However, it is known that the purchase will be financed through Couche-Tard’s available cash and/or existing credit facilities, including its US commercial paper programme.
Following the acquisition, Couche-Tard and Giant Eagle have agreed to maintain and partner together on Giant Eagle’s myPerks loyalty programme.
Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman said: “This enhances our focus on our core supermarket and pharmacy businesses, strengthening Giant Eagle and better enabling us to make strategic investments in our people, stores and value proposition while matching GetGo with the perfect partner in Couche-Tard. Their depth of experience in convenience stores and fuel will create tremendous opportunities for our team members and customers, and we look forward to partnering with them on the myPerks loyalty program.”
The announcement comes after Seven & i Holdings, the Japan-based owner of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain, announced the receipt of a preliminary takeover offer from Alimentation Couche-Tard.
