Hardware retailer Ace Hardware has entered a partnership with VusionGroup to adopt advanced digital shelf label (DSL) technology across its network.

VusionGroup’s DSLs, powered by VusionOX, its Bluetooth-based internet of things (IoT) operating system, will be integrated with VusionCloud IoT cloud management software.

The DSL technology enables Ace Hardware to swiftly update pricing at the store level, ensuring accurate and efficient pricing management.

Digitalisation allows staff to be more agile and spend more time with customers while also enhancing store operations.

VusionCloud facilitates remote tracking, monitoring and management of digital price tags and IoT devices.

The DSLs are equipped with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that support in-store picking and wayfinding, contributing to an improved in-store experience and increased profitability.

The combined capabilities of Bluetooth low energy technology, flashing LEDs at the shelf edge and cloud-based IoT management enhance in-store experience and overall store performance, and boost profitability.

Ace Hardware’s expansion in the DIY sector is further supported by this partnership, which allows for technological growth alongside physical expansion.

The collaboration also opens avenues for future adoption of VusionGroup’s technologies, such as out-of-stock detection and in-store retail media.

Ace Hardware store systems and operations director Eric Webb said: “One of Ace Hardware’s objectives in selecting VusionGroup was to ensure that we had the support and structure for our retailers to be successful.

“By automating pricing capabilities and the efficiencies gained with LED integration into our technology, we can maintain the high level of customer service our brand is known for, while simultaneously streamlining operations at every level.”

Ace Hardware operates a network of 5,000 locations across the US with a total annual revenue of $6.9bn.
