Asda supermarket workers in Wisbech are poised for another round of strike action In August 2024 over unresolved issues.
According to the GMB union, 150 members will participate in the strike from 3am to 10pm on 2 August 2024.

They are angry over issues including cuts in hours, inadequate training and alleged management bullying.
GMB has expressed frustration over the lack of progress in addressing health and safety concerns, fire safety breaches, equal pay disputes and the absence of collective bargaining.
Despite ongoing discussions with Asda’s senior management since a previous strike in March 2024, the GMB states that employees have little faith that the issues are being properly managed.
GMB regional organiser Keith Dixon said: “Asda Wisbech bosses are fully aware of why workers are angry. But despite several meetings with senior directors, the company seems to be completely missing the point.

Asda has expressed disappointment that strike action is still proceeding.
An Asda spokesperson has rejected the claims that problems highlighted by the GMB are being disregarded, as reported by the Wisbech Standard.
The spokesperson stated that the issues have been addressed and that it is “completely untrue” for the union to suggest staff have “no confidence” in the company’s response.
The Wisbech Standard quoted the spokesperson as saying: “We have taken reasonable and practical steps in Wisbech to address the points previously raised by the GMB, and this has been welcomed by our colleagues at the store, most of whom are members of the union.
“Given this progress, we are disappointed the GMB has chosen a course of action that has the potential to disrupt the local community and hurt colleagues financially.”
