US-based grocery wholesaler Supervalu has signed a reseller agreement with grocery delivery service platform Instacart to expand its digital capabilities and create professional services.

As part of the deal, the grocery chain will provide online shopping and delivery services benefits to more than 3,000 independent retail stores supplied by Supervalu.

The agreement will also provide access to the services to other retailers in more than 240 metro areas across the US where Instacart has presence.

Instacart’s e-commerce platform will also be integrated with Supervalu’s digital marketing services, enabling retailers to reduce labour costs.

Supervalu digital vice-president Tom Kraus said: “Consumers today want the ability to shop for food and groceries anytime and anywhere.

“Instacart allows retailers to meet customers when and where they want to buy with delivery in as little as one hour.”
