The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning to consumers to stop using Chinese seller Doraemon’s Dovfun Suit magnetic ball sets.
The product poses a serious ingestion hazard, particularly to children, and fails to meet the mandatory federal safety regulations for toy magnet sets.
The commission has called on consumers to immediately discontinue the use of the magnetic ball sets, remove them from children’s reach and ensure their proper disposal.
The regulator concluded after tests that the sets of multi-coloured magnetic balls not only fit within the CPSC’s small parts cylinder but also exhibit a magnetic strength exceeding permissible limits.
When ingested, these high-powered magnets attract one another or another metal object within the digestive system, potentially causing severe medical complications such as intestinal twisting or blockage, perforations, blood poisoning, infection and even death.
Between 2017 and 2021, approximately 2,400 cases of magnet ingestion were treated in hospital emergency departments, according to CPSC estimates.
