UK-based multinational retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) has revealed plans to hire 10,000 new customer assistants ahead of the festive season.
The announcement is part of the retailer’s additional investment in colleague hours.
The customer service assistant roles will span across foods, clothing and home and will be located all over the UK.
The role of the customer assistant includes serving shoppers in the store and at service points, as well as ensuring the availability of products on the shelves and rails.
They will also engage with customers to address their requirements and make recommendations.
Christmas colleagues will also support deliveries of M&S’ Christmas Food to Order service.

M&S operations director Sacha Berendji said: “Our fantastic store colleagues play such a big part in delivering the magic of M&S at Christmas to our customers. And this year we’re recruiting even more colleagues to ensure there’s always someone on hand to offer support and recommendations.

M&S said that the number of vacancies for this festival season grew by more than 40% compared to 2022.
Recently, Sainsbury’s said that it is recruiting 22,000 seasonal staff across the UK, with 2,000 at Argos staff as it prepares for the festive season.
