Turkey-based rapid grocery delivery service provider Getir has revealed plans to cut approximately 2,500 jobs across five countries, including the UK.
According to a report by the Guardian, the job cuts are part of the company’s global restructuring initiative.
The company, which has 23,000 employees in the UK, the US, Germany, the Netherlands and Turkey, has said that the layoffs will represent 10.9% of its total workforce.
The decision will impact couriers, pickers and office employees in the five countries.
In a press statement, the company said: “We will restructure the global organisation to significantly increase operational efficiency.”
It added: “Decisions like these are never taken lightly. However, Getir is determined to do right by all employees affected by the process in line with its values and in full compliance with local laws. We are very grateful to all colleagues for their hard work, dedication, and significant contributions to the business.”

Over the last few months, Getir exited from Italy, Spain and Portugal due to a drop in demand for rapid deliveries of groceries.
In July this year, Getir and Gorillas, the rapid delivery company it acquired in December 2022, ended operations in France, leaving 1,300 jobless.
In May this year, the company reportedly held talks to acquire its lossmaking German rival, Flink.
