IT jobs accounted for a 10.58% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in November 2022, registering a decrease of 4.45% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in November 2022
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 38.46% in November 2022, a 60% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 26.92% in November 2022, marking a 16.67% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 15.38% in November 2022, a 66.67% drop from October 2022.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 31.25% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during November 2022 over previous month.
Shoprite Holdings posted 6 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a decline of 40% over the previous month, followed by Clicks Group with 6 jobs and a 200% growth. Pick n Pay Stores with 4 IT jobs and Amazon with 4 jobs, recorded a 300% rise and a 77.78% drop, respectively, while Mr. Price Group recorded a 100% increase with 2 job postings during November 2022.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry
South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with an 80.77% share in November 2022, a 27.59% decrease over October 2022. United Arab Emirates featured next with an 11.54% share, flat growth over the previous month. Israel recorded a 3.85% share, a drop of 94.74% compared with October 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 53.85%, down by 62.16% from October 2022. Mid Level positions with a 30.77% share, registered a decline of 38.46% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 15.38% share, down 55.56% over October 2022.
