US-based retailer Walmart is planning to expand the availability of Mobile Express Scan & Go (Scan & Go) technology to 100 new stores across the country this month.

The app will enable Walmart customers to scan and bag items, including produce, as they shop and pay directly with their phones.

With this feature, customers will no longer have to queue at the checkout registers.

The Scan & Go application is currently being tested at selected Walmart stores, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando and Northwest Arkansas.

“Wallmart intends to expand this feature to more stores across 33 US states.”

As part of the test, the select Walmart stores will also have Scan & Go kiosks where customers can scan their selected products using handheld devices.

The Scan & Go kiosks are being placed at the stores in order to allow customers experience the new service before downloading the Scan & Go application into their phones.

Wallmart intends to expand this feature to more stores across 33 US states.

The Scan & Go app is available for Android and iOS smartphone devices.

Once the customer has completed shopping and payments for their items through the app, they can walk out of the store through the Mobile Express lane.

The retailer noted that the new app not only saves its customers time but it also helps them to keep a check on their spending, as they can view the price of each item as they scan them, along with a running total.
