September 2021 has seen an increase of 4.36% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 13.24% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering a decrease of 2.12% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 57.69% in September 2021, a 28.57% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 24.36% in September 2021, marking a 46.15% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 8.97% in September 2021, a 133.33% rise from August 2021.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 29.63% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during September 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 26 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a decline of 18.75% over the previous month, followed by Shoprite Holdings with 19 jobs and a 58.33% growth. Inter IKEA Holding with 15 IT jobs and The Foschini Group with 6 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 50% rise, respectively, while Mr. Price Group recorded a 33.33% decline with 4 job postings during September 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry
South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 48.72% share in September 2021, an 11.76% increase over August 2021. Niger featured next with a 17.95% share, flat growth over the previous month. United Arab Emirates recorded a 14.1% share, a growth of 22.22% compared with August 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.1%, up by 38.89% from August 2021. Entry Level positions with a 19.23% share, registered a growth of 87.5% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 16.67% share, down 13.33% over August 2021.
