India’s retail industry registered a 0.4% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 12.54% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 28.34% share in August 2021, recording a decrease of 4.61% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.1% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry in August 2021.

Top five retail companies in India’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 13.75% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
Amazon posted 260 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a drop of 35.16% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 197 jobs and a 2714.29% growth. Avenue Supermarts with 28 IT jobs and Target with 18 jobs, recorded a 250% flat growth and a 25% decrease, respectively, while NIKE recorded a decline of 9.09% with 10 job postings during August 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.53%, up by 12.8% from July 2021. Entry Level positions with a 24.42% share, registered an increase of 12.4% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 16.7% share, up 50% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.36%, recording a month-on-month increase of 100%.
