August 2021 has seen a decrease of 12.13% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 6.03% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering a decrease of 0.75% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 56.6% in August 2021, a 41.18% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 16.98% in August 2021, marking a 10% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 13.21% in August 2021, a 63.16% drop from July 2021.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 8.77% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s retail industry during August 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 27 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a decline of 40% over the previous month, followed by Lojas Americanas with 16 jobs and a 100% growth. SMU with 6 IT jobs and Alibaba Group Holding with 2 jobs, recorded a 50% rise and a flat growth, respectively, while Farfetch recorded a flat growth with 1 job postings during August 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s retail industry
Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 60.38% share in August 2021, a 38.46% decrease over July 2021. Chile featured next with a 16.98% share, down 25% over the previous month. Costa Rica recorded a 13.21% share, a growth of 40% compared with July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.04%, down by 38.6% from July 2021. Entry Level positions with an 18.87% share, registered a growth of 100% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 15.09% share, down 68% over July 2021.
