Asos, which acquired four brands of Arcadia, could leave 2,500 employees at the risk of losing their jobs.
Meanwhile, online retailer Boohoo’s acquisition of Debenhams is likely to leave approximately 12,000 employees jobless.
With this announcement, Aldi plans to offer long-term retail roles to thousands of employees affected by the two high street retailers.
Speaking of the development, Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “We are currently opening an average of one new store a week as we continue to try to meet the huge demand for amazing quality food at unbeatable prices that shoppers can only get at Aldi.
“That means finding around 4,000 new Aldi colleagues this year and, if we can do that while also helping those who have recently lost out due to closures elsewhere, we will do.”
In July, Aldi planned to recruit 1,200 new employees in the UK despite the widespread job loss in the retail industry due to the Covid-19 crisis.
