Outdoor lifestyle apparel and footwear company Columbia Sportswear has reopened 30 Columbia branded stores in ten states of the US.

With the reopening, the company will also bring back more than 250 of its furloughed retail workers.

The retailer will various precautionary measures, including necessitating face coverings for employees, adjusting store layouts to maintain social distancing, and delaying clothes restocking in fitting rooms for 24 hours.

Additionally, employees are required to clean high-touch points regularly and cashiers will wear gloves.

The reopening of 30 stores came following the successful reopening of a Columbia branded store in Nebraska last week.

The retailer now operates 31 retail stores in the US.

Columbia Sportswear chairman, president and CEO Tim Boyle said: “We are excited to be opening our stores, helping our consumers gear up to head outdoors, and welcoming our retail employees back to work.

“I want to thank our distribution centre and call centre employees who came to work every day under difficult circumstances. We could not have kept our online business working without them.”

As part of the reopening, the company will launch a checkout charity campaign to help fund relief efforts in the communities across its operation.

Columbia Sportswear plans to continue reopening of its US stores in the coming months complying with state and local authorities and community guidelines.

Boyle added: “We still have a long way to go with Covid-19. Opening stores, enjoying the great outdoors, and helping each other shows there is light at the end of the tunnel and that we are truly tougher together.”
