US drugstore chain Walgreen and on-demand food delivery service provider Postmates have expanded on-demand delivery amid the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.
Under this initiative, health and wellness items, including selected over-the-counter medications, other household essentials and convenience products, can be ordered for home delivery.
Customers in cities across the country can shop from more than 7,000 Walgreens stores and get their items delivered via Postmates. However, the service is not available in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Walgreens president Richard Ashworth said: “During these challenging times, our customers need alternate options to get the essential products they need.

By GlobalData“By expanding our delivery service collaboration with Postmates, more customers can get what they need, delivered on-demand, at their doorstep.
“Because of Postmates’ non-contact delivery options for certain items, Postmates drivers will leave deliveries on doorsteps, keeping these transactions completely contact-less, with no personal interaction required.”
Customers can avail the service by downloading the Postmates mobile app or through its Postmates.com website.
Additionally, unlimited free delivery is offered for customers subscribed to its Postmates Unlimited membership service.
Postmates merchant business development VP Craig Whitmer said: “Community health and safety is paramount at Postmates, so we’re working to support our merchant partners, like Walgreens, and get essential items into the hands of our customers.”
Earlier this month, Walgreens placed purchase limits on certain products to stabilise inventory and waived delivery fees for all eligible prescription drugs during the outbreak.
Confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached 802,726 globally while the death toll stands at 39,051.
