The US consumer industry saw a rise of 4.6% in overall deal activity during Q2 2019, when compared with the last four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 528 deals worth $34.53bn were announced in Q2 2019, compared to the last four-quarter average of 505 deals.
M&A was the leading category in the quarter with 261 deals which accounted for 49.4% of all deals.
In second place was venture financing with 209 deals, followed by private equity with 58 transactions, respectively accounting for 39.6% and 11% of overall deal activity in the country’s consumer industry during the quarter.

The US consumer industry deals in Q2 2019: Top deals
The top five consumer deals accounted for 68% of the overall value during Q2 2019.
The combined value of the top five consumer industry deals stood at $23.47bn, against the overall value of $34.53bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced US consumer industry deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Eldorado Resorts’ $17.3bn acquisition of Caesars Entertainment.
In second place was the $2bn acquisition of International Speedway by NASCAR Media Group and in third place was E. & J. Gallo Winery’s $1.7bn asset transaction with Constellation Brands.
The $1.37bn acquisition of Harry’s by Edgewell Personal Care and Apollo Funds’ private equity deal with Smart & Final Stores for $1.1bn held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
