Walmart has introduced its mobile payment service at its approximately 600 stores across the US states of Texas and Arkansas, as an effort to draw more customers and improve their checkout experiences.
Previously trialled at Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, the service is available at 110 stores in Arkansas and 480 stores in Texas, and Walmart plans to introduce it across the country by the end of next month.
The creation of Walmart Pay was announced last December.
The chain has become the first retailer in the US to own its payment service that enables customers to use their smartphones as a digital wallet to pay only at Walmart stores.
The service is tied to the existing Walmart app and is available for major credit, debit, prepaid cards, as well as for Walmart gift cards, for iOS and Android users.
The launch of Walmart Pay puts it among other mobile payment service providers such as Apple and Google.
