US-based big-box store chain Meijer has opened its new supercentre in Sturgis, Michigan, as part of a $400m investment plan this year.
The opening of the new store has generated 3,000 new jobs.
The new 192,000ft² store is one of the nine supercentres that Meijer plans to open this year.
Meijer aims to invest more than $400m in new stores and renovations of existing outlets.
The Strugis store will provide merchandise, including fresh produce at low price. It will also feature a full-service pharmacy, offering drive-thru pick-up and free prescription services.
Meijer CEO Hank Meijer said: "Opening this store has been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled the day is finally here."
