Italian supermarket Iper has deployed NCR Retail solutions at its new store in Milan, offering an engaging and time-effective shopping experience to its customers.
The 9,000m² hypermarket is located at Il Centro in Arese, which is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe.
It is equipped with a range of NCR hardware and software that automates the checkout services, thereby offering customers the choice of self-service or assisted checkout.
Iper has chosen the NCR RealPOS XR7 systems, which will provide its cashiers with a workstation that combines ergonomics, aesthetics and operational efficiency.
The NCR RealPOS XR7’s ‘all-in-one’ design is incorporated in a capacitive 15in touchscreen, which is ideal to host the touch-based user interface of the NCR Advanced Retail Solution application.
The hypermarket also offers a number of self-checkout options for customers, such as the NCR Fastlane Self-Serv Checkout solution, which enables customers to scan their purchase and pay with cash or other payment options.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the hypermarket has opted for smaller NCR Self-Serv 90 for two types of transactions. The first is a self-checkout with electronic payment options wherein customers have to scan the content of their shopping cart at the checkout. The second is an electronic pay station where customers pay for the items that they have scanned with a handheld device when putting it in their basket or cart.
The hypermarket checkouts consist of 18 self-service payment locations and 28 assisted lanes, thereby minimising queues.
All checkout lanes are also equipped with the full imaging bioptic NCR RealScan 7879 scanners that can read any kind of barcode. The assisted lanes also come with a remote imager, integrated in the mount bracket of the card terminal.
Iper director for information systems Valerio Cortese: "Thanks to NCR’s cutting-edge and easy-to-use solutions, we are always able to offer our customers an attractive shopping experience, suited for all types of consumers.
